How to Re-engage Boys with Learning and Create GOOD MEN in the Modern World

A Seminar for Teachers 7-12
Presented by Richard Pedley-Smith and Wade Fairclough

This seminar seeks to identify and address issues commonly found in young males across broad sub-groups within schools in NSW and Australia. There is a particular focus on refining existing programs working within school frameworks in order to develop positive masculinity and self-esteem in underachieving and at-risk boys. The ultimate aim of this seminar being to re-engage students with class activities and inspire them to reach their full potential to become “Good Men”.
Through a variety of strategies, teachers will learn how to equip boys with skills to help them achieve academically, emotionally and socially.

During the day Richard and Wade will discuss:

  • Why boys are at risk?
  • What is a “good man?”
  • How do we move from negative Peer-Esteem to positive Self-Esteem?
  • How do we break down barriers and communicate effectively with boys?
  • Responding to trauma...What to do when they finally open up?

They will also share:

  • What has worked/failed with our program?
  • The “hidden costs” of working with disengaged boys
  • What to do when their family is the problem?
